Camping is obviously a fun hobby, but are your activities getting a little old? With a little imagination, your camping activities can go from plain and boring to fun and awesome. By night you can star gaze and have a campfire while roasting marshmallows, but what about during the day? In this article, we are going to go over some cool activities that you can do while camping outdoors that will keep everyone entertained.
Many of us learn to skip rocks as children, and what better place to learn than while you are camping near a lake? Learning how to skip rocks can be hard if you don’t know what you are doing. First, you will want to use a flat water surface, like a lake, and find a lot of rocks. Find rocks that are flat, round and light.
Use your index finger on the edge of the rock, facing the water sideways. Bend your wrist and snap it forward, flicking the rock against the water. You may have to practice, but over time, this can be a fun activity.
Knife throwing is not just a sport, but an art form. Using the best throwing knives, you can learn how to hit a target, improve your accuracy and gain patience while playing. While camping, you have wide open spaces in which to learn to throw knives safely.
There are various ways to throw knives, you can develop a technique over time that suits you best. It is a fun activity that you can do outdoors, in a place where it is safe to practice and hit targets without causing damage to electronics, doors, walls, and other items you would otherwise hit at home.
A camping trip is a great time to learn how to sharpen a knife with a stone. We all know a dull knife is basically useless, so if you are in a pinch, you can use a stone to sharpen it enough to use successfully. There are 4 things to do when you sharpen a knife with a stone.
First, you need to find a stone that is pretty flat and has a little grit to it. You want to find a stone that is big enough to sharpen a knife while you are holding it in your hands. Safety is key while sharpening. Using two stones can be helpful as well. Secondly, you should figure out the best way to hold onto the stone while sharpening so that you have less chance of injury.
Next, you will sharpen the blade on both sides at a 30-degree angle. Just rub in an even fashion back and forth over and over until the blade is sharper. Lastly, look the blade over and test it out. If it isn’t sharp enough, just repeat the steps.
Again, having a lake nearby is awesome while camping. You can do so many activities in the water that will entertain you for hours. From building sand castles to fishing and swimming, the water is the place to be. While near the lake, consider going on a boat or kayak or snorkel! For those who are more daring, you can go tubing, water skiing or ride a wave runner.
If you don’t have a lake at your campsite, consider having a water balloon fight or use a tarp and line the inside of a truck bed and fill it with water to make your own pool! The aquatic possibilities are endless.
Lesser Known Sports
Sure, you know how to play baseball, soccer and football, but have you mastered horseshoes? What about corn hole? Maybe you will be the next lawn bowling champion. There are many lesser known sports that are perfect to play while camping. Consider a ring toss or disc golf, too!

Part of camping is being able to enjoy nature, so what better way to do so than to watch the wildlife that lives in the area. Bring your binoculars so you can watch various bird species around you, along with animals like deer, squirrels and more.
