La Valencia Hotel in La Jolla

The gorgeous La Valencia hotel.

During my recent weekend in San Diego, I had the absolute pleasure of spending the second part on the beach in La Jolla, in an ocean villa at La Valencia. After spending the night downtown at the lovely, artsy US Grant, my friend Christy picked me up so we could head to the beach. Since I live in Las Vegas, I look forward to any glimpse of the ocean with a ridiculous amount of excitement. And nothing says “California” like the pink stucco and terracotta of La Valencia. When we pulled up to the distinct palm-tree lined arches of the historic hotel, I knew it was going to be a wonderful day!

La Valencia, nicknamed the “Pink Lady,” was built in 1926 and not surprisingly has welcomed many Hollywood stars looking for a little getaway. Its famous pool overlooking the Pacific was quite a scene (although we preferred the hot tub!), and the service stellar.

The ocean villas were down these stairs from the pool area, in an addition built in 2000. The villas are of various sizes but all have a patio overlooking the ocean and stunning views.

The villas themselves were gorgeous as well — and just remote enough. They were very old-school chic California: not an exorbitant amount of space, patios filled with multi-colored flowers, views of the turquoise ocean. We loved it!

La Jolla is known for the seals that bask in the sun on the rocks on its coastline. This little guy was waiting in our room.

The bathrooms were gorgeous — including the shower, which with the switch of a button turned into a spa-worthy steam room.

We stayed too long in the hot tub to catch the full sunset, but we did catch the very end of it. Nothing grabs me like watching the sun set over the ocean — a wonderful addiction I earned during my year living on the Pacific side of Costa Rica.

I was a guest of La Valencia, but all opinions are my own.

What a gorgeous place, it looks so old school California. At least what I imagine that to look like growing up in cold Canada.

Oh how I miss the peacefulness of PCH and the waves. That hotel sounds amazing as I would suspect it would. Love the shower. And yes, our California stucco has a special vibe and just make you feel like grabbing a long board and doing it!
