How to Keep Your Skin Looking Great This Holiday Season

The holidays are a time to relax, and to indulge. You may have some time off work, a chance to go home from school for a few weeks, or just be allowing yourself some time away from your studies if you’re taking an online degree such as these in health communication from Boston University. Often over Christmas we drink a bit more, eat less healthily, sleep a lot less, and put our skin through hell. It’s cold, the bitter wind is leading to dry flaky skin, you’ve had a cold for weeks, leading to a sore, red nose, and you’re wearing more makeup for parties, so your pores are clogged and greasy. All of this at a time when you are desperate to look your best. Follow these tips and your skin will stay radiant into the New Year.

Drink Water

Drinking 8 glasses of water a day, can keep our skin hydrated and refreshed. Water is a great, simple way to achieve younger and healthier looking skin. Keeping hydrated will also help your skin keep its elasticity as you age, keeping wrinkles and lines away.

Sleep

Sleep gives your skin a chance to recover from the day gone by. Make sure you take your makeup off before bed to give it a real break. Enough sleep stops tired eyes and black rings, keeping you looking fresh and bright.

Give Your Skin a Rest

Have at least a day a week when you don’t wear any makeup. This is always a great tip, but is especially true when you might be wearing more than usual. This reduces the risks of clogged pores, blackheads and spots.

Wash Your Makeup Brushes

While your face may be clean when you apply your makeup in the morning, it isn’t after all those touch ups throughout the day. Not cleaning your makeup brushes and sponges spreads bacteria, leading to spot outbreaks and perhaps even infections. Clean them with warm water and a little anti-bacterial hand soap. Buy new ones as soon as they start to fall apart/look worn.

Throw Away Old Makeup

You’ve probably got some makeup that only comes out for special occasions. If you’ve had it for years, it’s time to replace it. Makeup can be very expensive, so consider spending a lot on foundations and other everyday products, and less on other things.

Cleanse, Tone and Moisturize

You don’t need to use expensive products, just those that match your skin type. If you are unsure, ask at a local makeup counter. It’s best to use products from the same brand, so as not to introduce too many different ingredients and chemicals to your skin. Make this a part of your everyday routine.

Smile

The best way to make you look and feel great is to smile! It’s Christmas remember, enjoy yourself, you’ll look better for it.

We all need a little looking after sometimes, and our skin is no different. Before the festive season really kicks off, try to give your skin a bit of a break, and some pampering to prepare it. You can make yourself a face mask fairly easily. If you are studying an online communications masters degree, you could even wear it while you work!
