If you actually want to have a lean figure, we have a secret to share with you: Diets do not really work all that well.
To be clear, the word “diet” can have more than a single meaning, but for this article alone, we will only use it to describe a temporary one; a program that restricts your eating with the goal of losing weight.
So, why do diets not work? Experts from Steroidsfax were kind enough to provide us with a lot of reasons, so allow us to make a short list of them:
- They are temporary.
Yes, it is quite obvious that eating less will make you lose weight, but 19 out of 20 dieters actually gain back the lost weight. For most, it takes a year, and some manage to keep their weight down for up to five years, but eventually, they gain the weight back.
- Starving/Binge eating
Starving your body for a period will lead to an immense feeling of hunger, which can then lead to overeating. And, keep in mind that your body actually prefers to have extra energy stored. Not eating enough will make it slow down your metabolism (since it believes you are dying), which will both make it harder for you to lose weight, and will also make you feel tired.
- Flavor of the month diets can be bad
Some of the fad diets in the past lacked the necessary nutrients for survival and were really bad for your health. Not to mention that once you reached your desired weight, you would just go back to your regular eating habits and regain everything.
- Eating Disorders
Constantly starving yourself to lose weight, and then gaining it back can lead to eating disorders and eating disorders can be a big problem. A study done 14 years ago concluded that those who suffer from anorexia nervosa are 5600% more likely to commit suicide.
A lot of people are trying to sell their “magic potions” every day with promises that it will make the user lose weight without lifting a finger. These are simply people trying to rip you off and losing money is the best thing that can happen to you. Some of the pills they are selling are incredibly harmful and people have even lost their lives because of them.
So, if diets are bad for you, what is it that you should do? The answer is simple; start eating healthy!
Instead of trying to starve your body, simply eat the foods that will give you the results you want. You want stuff with a lot of water, fiber, lean protein, healthy fats, and whole grains. You don’t want to skip on the nutrients your body needs to survive.
But, before we get to talking about foods, we should have a little talk about calories. Believe it or not, whether you gain or lose weight is solely based on the calories you intake. You could eat only junk food forever and, if you intake less than you use, you will always end up losing weight. On the flipside, you can be eating only the recommended foods, but if your calories are over your recommended levels, you will gain weight. Simple as that. So, even while following the advice in this article, keep in mind that calorie counting is your friend.
So, let’s talk about eating properly, namely cutting down on processed sugars and oils, artificial sweeteners, “diet” food, and trans fats, and eating more natural food.
So, what is it that you should limit? What meals are not a good choice? Well, these are the top 10 foods to limit:
- Sugary drinks
- White Bread
- Refined Oils
- Cakes, Pastries, and Cookies
- Fried potato foods (french fries, chips, etc)
- Agave nectar
- Candy Bars
- Processed meats
- Processed cheese
Now, we are not saying you should completely remove these from your life, but simply cut down on them. You can treat yourself to a candy bar, but exercise common sense.
And now, what you should eat:
- Nuts and seeds
- High-fat dairy
- Fats and oils
