Vegas Off Roading Experience

Ready to take care of business!

It always makes me laugh that people are so surprised that there’s life in Las Vegas off the Strip — let alone a world of adventure sports and outdoor activities. The reason I think this is so funny is because Vegas is literally in the middle of the desert. If you drive in from LA, you see nothing  but dirt for a good portion of the trip. Flying in? As you can see here, from my private jet experience, brown for as far as you can see — until the city pops up just as you’re about to land. From my office window, I can see the line where the city stops and nothingness begins. The guys who thought to build an entertainment wonderland in the middle of such barren land were geniuses!

So what do we do with all of this land in modern-day Las Vegas?

Adventure sports, of course!

Us Las Vegas folk love us some tourists. We know our place, and that place is a tourism town. So don’t think for one second that we assume you’ll know how to get from the glitzy Strip out to the dirt all by yourselves. We make it easy! Companies such as Galavantier will plan the whole thing for you.

To get a taste, my friends Kristen, TerissaAlex and Emily, and I played tourist for a day. Maybe us locals get the short end of the deal — when we met at Mandalay Bay for our day of adventure, this was our sweet ride!

Only in Vegas is there a Showgirls ad on the back of the limo about to take us an adventure sporting event. So I focused on the “VIP.”

After the 20-30 minute ride out to Boulder City, where everything from zip-lining in the mountains to today’s Vegas off-roading takes place, we all piled out with zero expectation. VORE (Vegas Off Road Experience) would have met any expectation I had — and more.

What followed blew my mind.

For us amateurs, VORE has built a track, so you’re not flying through the desert on unknown territory. The whole thing is very safe. Every vehicle is set up with a radio, and you’re in constant contact with Mission Control over where everyone else is. Once you get suited up and climb (literally climb, as the doors are bolted shut), you’re off!

I didn’t want anything to do with this. All I wanted were the thrills!

But wait, you say… Abby, you’re the worst driver ever. Why do you seem so excited about Vegas off roading?

Because I didn’t drive! I entrusted my friend Craig, who writes an awesome music blog in his spare time, to drive me. I don’t need to feel the power of the ignition or whatever… I want to go fast! I want to be airborne!

My trusty driver, Craig. Would he go fast enough for my need for speed?

Until I saw the track and the trucks, I had no idea what I was in for. But after a few practice rounds, we were ready to go. Some of the jumps were awesome! As long as you gun it as straight as you possibly can, getting airborne is easy!

It was honestly one of the most fun experiences I’d had in awhile.

And we’re off!

I was a guest of Galavantier, 24/7 Limousines and VORE Vegas off roading, but all opinions are my own. Interested in having your own adventure sports day in Vegas? Galavantier is currently running a Summerlove Sweepstakes  where fans can unlock and win prize packs for “Liking” Galavantier on Facebook. One of the prizes is a VORE experience for four.

I’m in! Let me know next time you’re looking for a co-pilot!

What a sweet experience! Being a tourist in your hometown is so fun, especially when you can do something like this. I went offroading once in high school. It was way out of character since I was pretty tame at that time, but it was so much fun.

  19. Posted August 14, 2012 at 10:22 pm | Permalink

This sounds intriguing, adventure sports without all the sweat. I like it.

  20. Posted August 15, 2012 at 2:53 am | Permalink

I imagine that would be such an awesome experience. I would love to try it one day!

I am closer to Faux Adventure Girl lol. This one was really fun though!

I am going to have to allow the hubs to do this!! It would make a great birthday present! You look B.A. in that helmet!! Good for you for trying something so fun and different!

What a fun peek at Vegas off-road adventures! I’ve never done anything like this, but have often wondered what it would be like. Sounds like a lot of fun!

  25. Posted August 15, 2012 at 9:47 pm | Permalink

oh, how fun! I think I would enjoy the passenger seat for a while then I would have to take over the wheel and catch some air!

  26. Posted August 16, 2012 at 12:04 am | Permalink

Love this! Not sure if I could trust someone to have the wheel though. And I love that folks outside of NV think we live in the casino…lol. What a fun thing to do in Vegas! Putting it on my list.

  27. Posted August 16, 2012 at 2:23 am | Permalink

I’m a good driver, but I think I’d rather be the passenger on something like this. I think I’d chicken out of the jumps if I were driving, but they sound fun!

  28. Posted August 16, 2012 at 9:17 am | Permalink

Sounds very exciting! When I think of Vegas I think of casinos but this sounds equally as fun!

  29. Posted August 16, 2012 at 3:46 pm | Permalink

This looks like fun, though all those straps and the helmets make it look a little bit scary. Glad you had a good time!

  30. Posted August 16, 2012 at 6:18 pm | Permalink

I’ve read a few posts like this of late, and I must say, it’s working its way up my list for the next time I’m in Vegas!

It was SO fun!!! Let me know when you go. Honestly, it was one of the most exhilarating activities I’ve done.

You’re the baddest bad ass I know!

  33. Posted August 20, 2012 at 10:27 am | Permalink

Awesome – now i know where to head when in this area next. Thanks for sharing this sweet experience Abby :)

This sounds absolutely fantastic! I love gokarts and I went off roading only once a a 4×4 in Alaska. I didn’t get to drive though :( I want to do this!
