Do you have a big vacation coming up? Does it include a guided city tour? These are a wonderful way to discover the highlights of popular cities and learn about their hidden gems and secrets. It’s easy to get caught up in the excitement for your upcoming city tour, so it’s quite common to not even give a second thought as to what you’ll need to enjoy the day.
Here’s a quick guide you can use that will help ensure you’ve got everything you need in your tote/backpack in order to have a fabulous city tour.
Protection from the Sun
It doesn’t matter if your city tour is taking place in the winter or summer months, you will want to pack sun protection. Sun protection should include sunblock, sunglasses, and a sun hat or baseball cap for the summer months. You’ll be doing plenty of sightseeing so you don’t want to be squinting and fighting with the sun in your eyes. You don’t want to end up with a sunburn either.
Snacks and Refreshments
Most city tours include a meal or snack at some point, but this may not be enough to satisfy you for the whole tour. It’s a good idea to pack a full bottle of water and a couple of high-protein, high-energy snacks. Things such as nuts, dried fruit, and granola bars are perfect. They are easy to pack, simple and quick to eat, and will satisfy your hunger.
A Mini First Aid Kit
No, we aren’t talking about a full-blown first aid kit, just a couple items that could end up coming in handy during the tour. You can use a small pouch or even a re-sealable sandwich baggie. You will want to include a few bandages, ibuprofen or acetaminophen, lip balm, hand sanitizer, antiseptic wipes, tummy medicine, bathroom tissue, and regular tissue.
All the Rest
The final items should include a map of the city, a camera, your cell phone, your wallet, a light jacket, a small packable umbrella, and your passport. For the ladies, you’ll also want to pack a hair tie and/or bobby pins in case it’s particularly windy or hot.
Don’t Forget Your Tote
Of course, all of these items need to be stored in some sort of bag. We recommend a tote bag for those who want to be able to access the items quickly, easily, and without having to stop. If you don’t mind stopping and then digging for the items, then a backpack will work.
No matter what kind of bag you pick, make sure to purchase something unique looking so it sticks out and can’t be confused with anyone else’s. Nowadays, you can have high-quality canvas art printed on totes and carryall’s, making yours completely unique.
Be Prepared for the Day
Now that you’ve got your day trip bag packed and ready to go, you’ll be able to enjoy the day and know that you’re prepared for whatever comes your way.
