I have lived in Kentucky all of my life and one of my favourite parts of the year is the 2 weeks that I spend with my family down in North Carolina. This is such a beautiful place and one which always renews and revives me after my time there. My favourite thing to do in the state is well, to do nothing at all, simply relaxing on the beautiful beaches is more than enough for me. Throughout the years I have stayed in almost every beach spot in North Carolina and I thought I’d share with you which are my favourites, to proved you with some inspiration for next time you are in the Tar Steel State.
Ever since my first trip back in 2014 to the Outer Banks with Elan Vacations, I have fallen head over heels in love with Nag’s Head and its beaches. Despite the fact that this area gets quite popular amongst tourists, that has not dampen my attitude at all when it comes to this classic beach location. Here you will find the perfect symmetry between earth and see as the grassy shrubs meet the windswept sand dunes of the shore. This is a great place to relax for a week or so and there is plenty going on for any tourist.
Bald Head Island
As I mentioned earlier, I love nothing more than resting my bones when I read off to North Carolina and the best place in which you can do just that is Bald Head Island. The ferry to the island takes around 20 minutes from Southport town and once you get off the boat, you will be treated to absolute tranquility with nothing to do but hear the ocean lap the island and take on the glowing sunshine. This is not a place to get active or to watch videos on your phone, this is a place where you lay down, shut your eyes, and allow your body to simply relax.
Pine Knoll Shores
I used to frequent Atlantic Beach a great deal when I came to North Carolina in the past but that was before I discovered its sister resort, Pine Knoll Shores. This area is much quieter than Atlantic Beach and it offers some of the finest sand which you will find throughout the region. This is classic North Carolina for me, sand dunes, crashing Atlantic waves and plenty to do, without the huge volume of tourists. For those of you looking to indulge in something other than the beach you can head to the aquarium on Pine Knoll Shores and see some of the most incredible marine life in the region and the conservation projects which are being undertaken here.
These are just my top 3 beach locations in North Carolina amongst many that I could pick, I have tried to pick a great place for all types of tourists and I hope that you will have as much fun here as I have over the years.
